The wooden canal boat society (wcbs) is a waterway society and a registered charity in england, uk, based at ashton-under-lyne, greater manchester.the society started as the wooden canal craft trust in 1987, and by 1995 the trust owned six boats; it was wound up in 1997, and its assets were handed over to the wcbs.. During the 2014 docking of spey, two planks were set to be replaced. this film shows the process of test fitting and final adjustments, creation of a new scarf joint, steaming, bending, and. Bulkheads & doors. bulkheads are vertical panels which separate a narrowboat into compartments or “rooms”. put simply, bulkheads are upright walls within the shell of a narrow boat. bulkheads and doors are used to define spaces and make living on a boat more comfortable.. Burning damp wood on your narrow boat reduces the efficiency as it lowers the temperature of the fire and will often leave un-burnt wood which produces more carbon monoxide. you would need to burn around three times as many unseasoned logs to achieve the same heat output as well seasoned logs..
