Flats Boat Vs Jon Boat

Flat bottom jon boats can go into very shallow water without grounding. if you are fishing for bass in the shallows or if you are duck hunting and want to tuck into the weed, a flat bottom boat is a better choice. also, a flat bottom boat can be turned into a duck blind easier because the sides are not as high.. I have a 17' pathfinder flats boat. it isa tunnel hull made by hewes. i fish bass tournaments out of it every weekend. my boat has a flat bottom, which means i can get into some skinny water (aka the flats in the everglades).. 2015 tracker 12w i converted into a flats boat. super awesome little skiff for the bays and affordable. powered by a 2015 suzuki df6, i can run all day on 1 gallon of gas..

Flats boat or bass boat, or something else? fish 11/24/2015 9 comments. bass boats and flats boats have a lot in common, and they also differ from each other in some details. as for jon boats, dinghies, and other smaller fishing boats, you need a trailer to transport them, and you can’t paddle them effectively.. Designed specifically to run in the “flats”, those shallow coastal waters where saltwater species like tarpon, redfish and bonefish thrive, flats boats often work in waters less than two feet in depth. anglers enjoy a wide-open platform at the front of the boat, or “bow”, to cast their line.. Im going to pick up a jon boat in the next few weeks for going up and down my local river (susquehanna) i found an awesome deal on a 12 foot semi v, but how stable are they? would a flat jon be better? i plan to put a 7.5 to 10 hp outboard on there.
