Bird island is quite a distance from mb. you would probably be better off driving up to sunset beach nc, parking, and walking down to bird island.sunset beach is very nice. it's very quiet and off the beaten path.. Yes, in fact bird island use to be an "unofficial" nude beach for years prior to 2009. however public nudity is now banned on the nc side of the island. i do not know about the portion in sc..
